Description: In this six-week class, students will explore the delightful art of puppetry performance. Participants will learn about fundamental aspects of the form that will benefit both their existing creative/performance practices and their day-to-day lives - such as style, focus, movement, specificity, and intention. This course covers puppetry foundations such as breath, focus, movement, intention, effective communication, and physical awareness.
Goal: To learn the fundamental techniques and skills of puppetry performance for fun, expression, and as a creative practice.
Prerequisite: Prior training or practice in other performance arts is helpful, but not requires. No prior experience necessary.
Class Size: 10 people max.
Duration: 6 weeks x 2 hours/class

ABOUT YOUR INSTRUCTOR:
Lowen Morrow is an award-winning artist specializing in puppetry and comedy. They are best known in the comedy community for their work with the Dora award winning comedy juggernaut Sex T-Rex, with whom Lowen has created several acclaimed productions. Sex T-Rex’s distinctive shows have sold out theatres across the country and have won numerous festival awards, including: Montreal Fringe’s Just For Laughs Award (Best Comedy), Toronto Fringe’s Second City Award (Best Comedy), Vancouver Fringe’s B.C. Touring Council Award, and Halifax Fringe’s Best Of The Fest, Audience Choice, and Best Comedy awards. Sex T-Rex has also branched into filmed work having won Audience Choice at the Filmpalooza Short Film Festival (Paris) and Insight Production’s Pilot Week competition. Lowen is also a resident artist with Bad Dog as co-presenter of Blockbuster Week and the monthly show D&D Live.
As a puppeteer, Lowen has toured internationally with Mermaid Theatre of Nova Scotia, with whom they performed for tens of thousands of children across Canada, the US, and China. In Toronto, they have served as puppetry director, designer, sculptor, and puppetry instructor for several notable productions and organizations - including Soul Pepper, Terragon, The Second City, Theatre By The Bay, Bad New Days, and Bad Dog.
