Emerging Creators' Unit 2024-25
We are so excited to announce that the Hinprov collective are our next Emerging Creator’s Residents!
About Hinprov
Hinprov Collective has been performing and actively introducing improv to people from the IBPOC community since 2020. It is Toronto’s first and only bilingual (Hindi and English) improv community, built as a home away from home for South Asians in Toronto. With vibrant shows like Improvised Bollywood Comedy, Hinprov has brought new audiences to live comedy. These shows have been presented and featured at stages such as Vancouver Improv Festival, Mississauga Multilingual Fringe Festival and Bad Dog’s Blockbuster Week. Propelling the winds of change and authenticity, Hinprov has recently started with Hindustani Reading Sessions, celebrating the work of acclaimed poets.
With their unique workshops that borrow Physicality, Movement, Music and similar elements from Indian Classical Theatre (Natya-Shastra), Hinprov Collective is all set to change the way improv is traditionally performed, received or shared in the Western hemisphere. The collective takes pride in celebrating the colorful culture of the South Asian Community and is working towards introducing 100 new IBPOC artists to Improv in 2024.
About the Emerging Creators’ Residency
The Bad Dog Theatre Emerging Creators’ Residency is an innovative program that gives artists the opportunity to create new, unscripted projects and develop their producing skills. The unit is designed for emerging creators that want to develop skills in producing, using an anti-oppression framework in their approach, creative process, grant writing and more. The program will include a showcase for participant’s newly created unscripted project. The project will be included in Bad Dog’s 2024/2025 season, with mentorship throughout.
The program is generously supported by the Pat & Tony Adams Freedom Fund for the Arts.
