FAQ

Frequently Asked questions

  • Each workshop and show is tailor made based on your needs, your budget and your team size. When structuring your quote, we look at length of session, venue, number of workshop facilitators, and any travel requirements. We then develop a customized quote just for your team. Our rates are competitive and negotiable - just reach out! We love to talk improv.

  • We recommend a minimum of 90 minutes per workshop/topic. This allows us to spend time working on the foundational learning and implementing the things we’ve practiced. That being said, we can easily customize to your schedule and agenda. Our custom shows are approximately 50-60 minutes, but we can also adjust this timing for your group.

  • We work with you to identify any areas where we may need to adjust. Fear is totally natural with improv and we can restructure any activities to ensure there is no performance element. In these cases, we will stick to partner and small group based exercises.

  • Our education centre can accommodate small groups of up to 9 participants, and we partner with numerous venues around the downtown core that we are able to rent for your group. We can also travel to your space and are happy to discuss space requirements with you!

  • We can work with groups from 5 people to over 200 people, space permitting!

  • All your team needs to bring is comfortable clothing they can move around in. We bring everything else!

  • While all our workshops are tailored to your group in terms of length and size, our workshops follow the same format:

    1. General Introduction - Instructors will introduce themselves, Bad Dog Theatre, and what participants can expect in the coming workshop. Participants will then introduce themselves and do a check in so everyone knows where they are coming from in the workshop.

    2. Warm-Up Exercises - Transitioning from introductions to getting participants involved is crucial to the success of the workshop. Getting participants to take supported risks in a safe environment, and having fun as soon as possible will benefit the remainder of the workshop.

    3. Skill-Building/Targeted Exercises - Now that the group is warmed up, these skill-based exercises are delivered with participants all engaging at once. They are typically more focused than the warm-up exercises and tailored to your desired outcomes.

    4. Presentational Exercises - These exercises are designed for a portion of the participants to apply the skills they’ve learned while the rest observe. Giving the feeling of ‘performing’ allows the participants to take risks in front of their peers and apply what the workshop has built on, while offering the ‘audience’ the valuable opportunity to learn by observing. If your group is not comfortable with presenting in front of a group, we may adjust to pairs based activities to relieve any pressure.

    5. Wrapping Up the Workshop - At the end of the workshop, participants recap and articulate any takeaways, lessons learned, or highlights and we provide access to information about further study.

  • Yes! Bad Dog Theatre is a registered charity in Toronto. That means any money spent on workshops and shows goes directly into future programs, shows and development. We can also provide tax receipts for workshops and donations!
