In The Background Character, we’re flipping the script and giving the spotlight to the unsung extras—the ones lurking in the background of your favourite movies. This fully improvised comedy show takes audience suggestions to create a deep dive into the lives, dreams, and misadventures of those overlooked sidekicks.
You pick the movie. You choose the background character. We bring their untold story to life—with unexpected twists, plenty of laughs, and a fresh take on the familiar.

SEX-T-REX:
Sex T-Rex returns to Blockbuster Week with the promise of a high-octane improvised take on your favorite film, complete with taught drama, gripping action scenes that may or may not use the two chairs on stage and many explosion sounds made with our mouths.

Bad Dog Comedy Theatre and Sex T-Rex are honoured to announce the return of Blockbuster Week from March 24 to 29, 2025 at the Assembly Theatre (1479 Queen Street West). A community gathering for some of Toronto’s most talented artists, Blockbuster Week is a beloved festival of brand new improvised comedies celebrating movies and television in a live, unscripted setting.
Blockbuster Week culminates on March 29th in a celebratory awards night called The Sexies, which sees Sex T-Rex awarding satirical yet heartfelt awards to all the artists in the festival.

About Bad Dog Theatre
The award-winning Bad Dog Theatre Company has specialised in the art of unscripted comedy and improvised performance since 1982. The home of Toronto's best improv since 1982, the company offers classes in improv, sketch and stand-up comedy all year round. Bad Dog is the home of the longest running comedy show in Toronto, Theatresports, which celebrated its 40th year in 2023.
