Description: This workshop focuses on how to build unique characters for improv and traditional performance. Learn how to blend improv techniques with physicality, voice, and emotional choices to create memorable characters. Students will deepen their performer’s toolbox, widen their range, and leave with techniques to make characters that are not only fun to play and watch - but also serve their stories.

Goal: To help experienced improvisors expand their confidence and comfort with character-driven performance.

Prerequisite: 2+ years of combined performance experience including improv training (Improv Foundations 4 or equivalent)

Class Size: 9 people max.
Duration: 4 weeks x 3 hours/class

ABOUT YOUR INSTRUCTOR:
Kirsten Rasmussen
is an award-winning comedic actor, writer, and director. Her recent theatre directing credits include Skyline’s The Limit (Second City Mainstage) and the Canadian Comedy Award-winning revue Extravaganza Eleganza. Previously, Kirsten won additional Canadian Comedy Awards for Best Improvisor and Best Ensemble for her work with The Second City, with whom she co-created several hit shows including She The People. As a teacher, she has delivered improv and character performance workshops with theatres across Canada and is a co-founder of the Montreal Improv Theatre. Kirsten’s acting credits include Shitt’s Creek (CBC), The Beaverton (Comedy), TallBoyz (CBC), Odd Squad (PBSkids), Dino Dana (PBSkids), Bit Playas (CBC Gem), Band Ladies (Highball TV),and her starring role on Slo Pitch (IFC). Writing credits include The Snoopy Show (AppleTV+), This Hour Has 22 Minutes (CBC), Because News (CBC), The Irrelevant Show (CBC), and the original web series Healing From Heartbreak.
