Studio pRESENTS: Summer Series
What: A perfect companion (or precursor) to our performance series classes, Studio Presents: Summer Series is a three part intensive that applies the fundamentals of improvisation in a more advanced context. Each class stands alone, but together, they're an incredible bootcamp for looking to improve these improv skills to being a great improviser!
Who is this for? Foundation 3+ (or equivalent)
Cost: $150-$200/ class
What: This class is for intermediate students looking to move into our performance-level Studio series classes. Students will work with Artistic Director, Julie Dumais Osborne on improvised scene work in a relaxed, diagnostic setting. Think of this as an extended Studio Audition that includes practical exercises and the opportunity to put customized feedback into action right away. At the end of the two-week class you will be given specific Bad Dog Academy class recommendation(s) as well as a written feedback form with suggested next-steps. We are currently casting for the 2018-19 Ensemble Studio, Shortform Studio, Narrative Studio and Format: Harold Studio. If one (or more) of these is a good fit, you will be invited to join without going through an additional audition process. Please note: participation in this class DOES NOT GUARANTEE admission into a Studio series class
Who is it for? This workshop is for performers with previous experience looking to join a Studio Series class (Foundation 3+ or equivalent)
When: Saturdays 12-4pm | June 16th - June 23rd
What: Women can struggle within the often male, and aggressive, environment of improv. This class seeks to empower women to make big choices, play big characters and yes, and their voices onstage. Taught by power-house Sarah Hillier (Second City; Toronto, I Love You), this intensive seeks to bring out your bold!
Who is it for? This workshop is for women/trans/femme performers with previous experience (Foundation 3+ or equivalent)
When: Sundays 2-5pm | July 8th- July 22nd
Be bold, make big choices... take up space!
What: This workshop is for people with any level of experience in the art of clowning. People that want to discover more about the modern clown figure and it's construction through the exploration of the self. We already are weird and beautiful enough, there's no need to create a ridiculous character or to develop a fictional persona. This is a modern approach to creating a clown that speaks to today and not one that is limited by old ideas or clichés of what a clown is and looks like.
In this introductory course the students will embark on a journey that first aims at waking up their bodies, their intuition and listening skills. We then move on to experiencing what true presence and communication might feel like on stage so that we can later dive into a deeper exploration of our creative potential.
Who is it for? This workshop is for performers with previous improv experience (Foundation 2+ or equivalent) but no need for clown experience.
When: Sundays 2-6pm | August 12th - August 26th
