Studio Foundations: Musical improv Basics
What is it?
A perfect companion (or precursor) to our performance series classes, Musical Improv Basics is an intensive musical improv bootcamp that applies the fundamentals of musical improvisation in a more advanced context than our Foundation Series.
Musical Improv Basics will feature a mix of musical scenework, improv singing technique, musical exercises and structure work that focuses on the fundamentals of musical improvisation.
When is it? Musical Improv Basics | Saturdays 12-2 PM | June 8th-August 3rd (No class Canada Day weekend June 29th)
Who is it For? Foundation Level 3+ at least some experience with improv
How much does it cost? $250 (+HST)
Instructor: Carly Heffernan
Carly Heffernan is an award winning writer, director, actor, improviser and Capricorn. She is an alumna of the Second City Toronto where she wrote and performed in four main stage revues. She became the youngest resident director in Second City Toronto history when she directed the critically acclaimed mainstage hit Come What Mayhem! and recently directed the acclaimed all-women revue She The People. She also co-wrote Second City’s Guide to the Symphony, which played such historic venues as Roy Thomson Hall and the John F. Kennedy Center.
Musical Director: Jordan Armstrong
Jordan Armstrong is a music educator, multi-instrumentalist and composer. She can be seen and heard performing regularly as one half of musical comedy duo Death Ray Cabaret and as the musical director for the spontaneous musical show Improv Karaoke. Jordan has worked with world music and dance ensembles Samba Squad and Ballet Creole, the Toronto Fringe Festival (People Suck, Shakespeare’s Ghostbusters), One Night Only (2016 Dora nominee, best musical direction) and the Canadian Comedy Award winning production The Adventures of Tom Shadow.
