What is it Format Studio? Whereas our Ensemble Studio focuses on the development and creation of thematic longform as an extension of the dynamic of a particular group, the Format Studio will celebrate existing models for performance & play within the canon of western improvisation... tailoring each teaching module to the specific needs and areas of specialization of the particular form being explored.

Format Studio Series Presents: Adaptation with Etan Muskat

Want to bring your favorite TV and movies to life on stage? This is the class for you! A step by step exploration of how to adapt scripted cinematic content to live improvised comedy, using narrative and dynamic staging techniques, breaking down genre tropes, avoiding the pitfalls and connecting with like minded fan communities. For intermediate to advanced improvisers with producing/directing experience.

Who is the Format Studio for? Experienced Narrative Performers. Either graduated of Narrative Studio or equivalent experience. This class will only expect 8 people.

When? Fridays 5:30-8pm | January 12th - March 2nd) | Only 1 level

Instructor: Etan Muskat

Etan Muskat is the Interim Artistic Director at Bad Dog! He is a writer, actor and improviser. He is an alumni of The Second City Mainstage where he wrote and performed in 4 revues. He is a founding member of the award-winning Bad Dog Repertory Players and has toured across the country performing improv, theatre and sketch. With his Montreal-based theatre company Two By Four he created four original plays including the award-winning Space Jail. In 2009 he co-wrote and directed the acclaimed webseries The Bitter End. TV credits include Baroness Von Sketch Show, The Expanse, Odd Squad and Designated Survivor. He has two children, both unemployed. 


Duration: 2.5hrs/week for 8 weeks (2 levels)

Price: $250 (+HST)

Please Note: In addition to the in-class hours, students will be required to participate in two performance showcases per term (these are held on Tuesday evenings 8pm)
