Get a taste of what’s in store later in the week with this sampler buffet of our featured groups: Rå Power (Edmonton), The Unpronounceables (Minneapolis), Garage Band Improv (L.A), and Little Mountain Improv (Vancouver).

9:30PM • BLIND DATE SEMI-FORMAL

A Festival tradition that invites visiting and local improvisers to put on their fanciest duds and perform, not knowing who they’ll be performing with until their names are called… often meeting for the very first time on stage! Grab your tickets now, this show is always a sell-out!

11PM • OPENING NIGHT PARTY

TUESDAY, MAY 23

 

8PM • SONGBUSTER • GARAGE BAND IMPROV

Love improvised music? This is the show for you. A classic improvised musical from one of Toronto's hottest musical improv troupes, Songbuster, featuring Festival guests followed by a showcase from L.A.'s newest musical troupe at the Upright Citizen's Brigade: Garage Band Improv.

9:30PM • THE UNPRONOUNCEABLES • GHOSTJAIL

Two of our favourite fellows return to the Big Smoke! With their easy nature and conversational quips The Unpronounceables will charm the laughs right out of you. 

Then Vancouver's Caitlin Howden directs Ghostjail, a classic from her time in the Toronto improv scene.

 


Wednesday, May 24

 

8PM • THE UNPRONOUNCEABLES • RÅ POWER

Get ready to see how it's done south of the border. The Unpronounceables bring their signature wit to our stage! Then Rapidfire Theatre's Rå Power get on stage and blow it up with their fierce brand of spontaneity. These are two troupes you don't want to miss.


9:30PM • LITTLE MOUNTAIN IMPROV • TRIPLESPEAK

What do you get when you gather the top tier performers in Vancouver's improv comedy scene? A blend of outrageous and honest improv called Little Mountain, and a show that will give you new laugh lines.

And because we couldn't say goodbye to it... we're bringing back Alex Tindal's Triplespeak and adding a few special Festival guests. If you're looking for improv that makes you laugh and think, look no further than this this monologist-driven show.


THURSDAY, MAY 25

 

7PM • THE RACOONS • GARAGE BAND IMPROV

Season Two of the Bad Dog Featured Players have reunited under the oh-so-Toronto moniker The Racoons to show us a bit of hometown fun, with special COMBUSTIONfestival guests.

Then it's your last chance to catch L.A.'s Garage Band Improv as they belt out completely improvised tunes made up with your suggestions. Just $5!

8PM • THE GIRLS SHOW • THE FUTURE

Then it's a special COMBUSTIONfestival episode of Kristen Rasmussen's late night hit raunchy & raw improvised comedy all about living it up in the city, The Girls Show.

After, we've got your first opportunity to catch The Future, from Philadelphia. Big characters, big style, big choices: who knows what will happen!

9:30PM • DOPPELGÄNGER VIDEO PROJECT

One set of performers film unfinished scenes that must be completed live, onstage by their improv doppelgängers - who only get to see the videos for the first time right before they hit the stage. Mixed media at its finest and a COMBUSTIONfestival classic.

11PM • MICETRO: A FESTIVAL FREE-for-ALL

This last-improviser-standing-wins format is a cutthroat competition of comedy! Vote for your favourite performer and see if they make it to the end.

West coast, best coast! Come see what new format Little Mountain Improv, Vancouver's top collective of unscripted comedy is cooking up.

Then we check in with Portland's Broke Gravy who are serving up fresh perspectives and a wide variety of narratives. Yum yum.


9:30PM • THE FUTURE • RÅ POWER 

Philly in the house! Our favs, The Future, are here and ready to show you why they are one of the top troupes in the City of Brotherly Love.

If you're a Canadian improv fan you know all about Edmonton's Rapidfire Theatre and its veteran performers Amy Shostak and Joleen Ballendine. Both are here reppin' it hard as Rå Power.

11PM • FESTIVAL DISASTER

The brilliantly cruel masterminds responsible for The Disaster Show (Fake Cops' Alex Kolanko & Filipe Dimas) are teaming up to create a spectacle of a show that will doubtless go down as one of the most memorable of the week (this one's for the adventurous).

12PM • KARAOKE

Time for YOU to get on stage! Join us for a song... or five...


SATURDAY, May 27

 

7PM • BAD DOG FEATURED PLAYERS • THROWDOWN

This season of the Bad Dog Featured Players open for a Bad Dog in-house format - each improviser comes armed with challenges (improvised or otherwise) to throw down for the rest of the cast as the show unfolds in a high-energy mix of short scenes and longer storylines. Just $5!

8PM • THEATRESPORTS 

The classic team vs. team Keith Johnstone shortform format will, for this special festival edition, pit three teams (Little Mountain Improv, Rå Power, and The Future) against each other to battle for the audience’s love & laughs. 

9:30PM • YES, ANDROID • BROKE GRAVY

Are we humans, or are we chatbots? Come find out what happens when one performer is fed lines from a real-life robot and the rest have to improvise around them at Etan Muskat's Yes, Android, featuring Festival guests.

Then it's your last chance to catch Broke Gravy before they head home. You won't get a chance to see them again soon (unless you're heading out to Portland), so don't miss them!

11PM • GOOD SWEAT

Th-th-th-th-that's all folks! Say goodbye to COMBUSTIONfestival 2017 with a huge dance party DJ'd by Hannah Spear. PWYC. All proceeds go to charity.
